Amaya Verde is a journalist specializing in graphics, data visualization and information design. She has served as a Visual Storytelling and Graphics Editor at the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia and she has been an advisor at the Secretariat of State for Communication of the Government of Spain.
Among her projects are the conceptualization and design of the official websites of the COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for allocated European funds.
She has worked at Univision Digital in Miami and New York. During this period she was a lecturer at NICAR and taught at the NAHJ. Previously, she founded her own agency specialized in informative graphics and established the graphics sections of the financial newspapers El Economista and Negocio in Spain. Her work has been awarded by the Society for News Design and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Mariano Zafra currently works as a Senior Graphics Editor at Reuters Graphics, where he is part of one of the most awarded teams in the world. Prior to this, from 2019 to 2023, he led the Graphic and Storytelling team at El País in Madrid (Spain).
Earlier, he spent four years as a graphics reporter for special projects at The Wall Street Journal in New York, and initiated and led the Infographic and Data Visualization Department at Univision News in Miami.
Before moving to the United States, he spent fourteen years at two of the most prominent national daily newspapers in Spain: El Mundo and El País.
